The Comenius project "The concept of time in different societies and cultures" is a European education project funded by the European Community. Teachers and students from five schools take part in it:
Lycée polyvalent Notre-Dame de Bonnes Nouvelles in Beaupréau, France
Instituto magistrale "T.Stigliani" in Matera, Italy
Il Liceum Ogolnoksztalcae in Opole, Poland
Bernardinus-Collegium in Heerlen, The Netherlands
Kepler-Gymnasium in Tübingen, Germany
The project was started at the beginning of the academic year 2000/01 and will continue to the end of the academic year 2003/04. Its aim is a comparative analysis of different concepts of time in the participating nations.
Usually we are not aware of how different concepts of time influence our thinking and behaviour, e.g. our rhythm of the day, the rhythm of working hours and leisure time, our calendars, rhythm in music, the importance of time at work and in sports. Time concepts shape our view of the past and the future, the view of human development and our view of the Earth and the universe. The concept of time defines our view on life and death.
While time is a basic concept in every culture, the views on time vary from one culture to the other and change from one historical period to the other. That's what makes our project so interesting.
On this home page we would like you to share our findings. You are welcome to contact us for any feedback and questions. |
